Name: Jeff Fauntleroy
Organization: Men Stopping Violence Against Women; Sexual Violence Task Force of Tampa Bay
Why are you involved in the Sexual Violence Task Force?: A number of people in my life have been either victims of sexual violence or directly affected by it. After receiving a greater education on the subject of sexual violence in this country, I feel compelled to make my voice heard in the movement to end sexual violence.
Collecting Strength: Donation Drive
On December 10, 2011, the Men Stopping Violence Against Women group gathered to collect donations at their first annual Collecting Strength: Donation Drive. Approximately 20 volunteers dedicated their Saturday afternoon to representing passionate members of the community by being present at the Wal-Mart on North Dale Mabry and Publix Greenwise in Hyde Park to collect food, clothing, and general care items to be divided between the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, The Spring of Tampa Bay, and the Family Justice Center. The shoppers were so incredibly generous, and gave over 250 tubes of toothpaste, two huge boxes full of non-perishable food, 100 bottles of deodorant, and 300 bottles of shampoo and conditioner combined, just to name a few of the donations received. There were several acts of kindness witnesses, including several shoppers who donated everything they purchased and walked away with nothing.
Voices of Strength: A Night of Expression
On November 6, 2011, survivors and supporters gathered together at The Roosevelt 2.0 to support one another and creatively express themselves and their journey towards healing and empowerment. The Men Stopping Violence Against Women created a safe zone in Ybor City for 2 1/2 hours, escorting groups to and from their cars with their bright red "Safety Team" t-shirts!
